Sears Dealer Stores around the nation will welcome the holiday season by sponsoring food drives to benefit local members of America’s Second Harvest-The Nation’s Food Bank Network, the largest charitable hunger-relief organization in the country.

This is the second consecutive year in which the Sears Dealer Store organization, with its more than 800 stores, will spearhead a national initiative to support America’s Second Harvest members.

The Green Valley Sears Dealer store will receive donations of canned and boxed non-perishable food items Friday-Dec. 31. Last year, the food drive collected 63 tons of food.

“We are excited to be partnering with America’s Second Harvest,” said Steve Titus, vice president and general manager for Sears Dealer Stores. “We feel privileged to join in the effort to lend a hand to those experiencing hardship in our communities, and want to encourage our customers to open their hearts and their cupboards to this initiative.”

Vicki Escarra, president and CEO of America’s Second Harvest, said: “

“We are thankful that the Sears Dealer Stores have committed to collecting food donations for our member food banks this holiday season,” “This partnership will help us feed the hungry in the communities we serve.”

Customers are encouraged to drop non-perishable canned and boxed food items as well as other needed products, such as diapers, paper towels, handy wipes and latex gloves in the donation boxes located at their Green Valley Sears Dealer Store, 1060 W. Beta St.

America«s Second Harvest will distribute the donations through its local network of food banks, food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after-school programs, Kids Cafes and BackPack Programs.
