NewsThe Volunteer Task Force established to create a center for volunteers next year is inviting interested persons to its meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 10 a.m. at the Madera Vista rec Center, 440 S. Camino del Portillo. The task force made up of representatives of non-profit agencies is looking for more volunteers for the planning phase for the center. There are three action committees: Administration, marketing and public relations and resource development. Volunteers working on any of these committees will need to commit from one to four hours a month during the planning phases. Especially needed are those with expertise in general administration, program development, marketing, advertising and grant writing. The idea for a community center for volunteers grew out of Green Valley Community Coordinating Council 5:15 Plan identifying a need to enhance and increase volunteerism in the area. That led to a volunteer summit last winter. Volunteers and representatives of non-profits have been meeting since August under the direction of a steering committee. Interested people not able to make the Dec. 4 meeting can attend one at 10 a.m. on Feb. 19 at GV Fire District Training Facility, 1285 W. Camino Encanto.
