NewsBorder Patrol agents from the Tucson Sector recovered three large amounts of marijuana no the Tohono O’odham reservation Wednesday totaling 4,387 pounds and worth about $3.7 million. One seizure occurred near Ajo on the reservation. Agents drove up behind a pickup truck driving north on Federal Route 34, and it sped away into the desert. They tracked it and found it abandoned. On board were 61 bundles of marijuana weighing 1,413 pounds. The occupants got away on foot . Also on Wednesday other agents went after two trucks they saw traveling north of the U.S.-Mexico border on reservation Federal Route 19. A short time later, the agents saw the truck recross the border, but searching where the trucks had earlier stopped, they found 55 bundles of marijuana weighing 1,142 pounds. And again on Wednesday agents went to the aid of the Tohono O’odham Police Department. A resident had called the police saying a large amount of marijuana had been left on his property. When the agents investigated, they found 89 bundles of marijuana weighing 2,132 pounds. jlamb@gvnews.com | 547-9749
