NewsThe artist colony Tubac will be illuminated with luminarias the nights of Dec. 7 and 8 as part of its Christmas celebration, Fiesta de Navidad. The events will run from dusk until 9 p.m., and many merchants, shops and galleries will offer refreshments to visitors. There are more than 100 galleries, shops and artist studios in the village, a place “Where Art and History Meet,” said the Tubac Chamber of Commerce. Tubac was the site of an 18th century Spanish presidio, or fort, which helped protect settlers from Apache Indian attacks. There will be holiday music and caroling and Santa Claus will be on hand both nights. A large Christmas tree at the village entrance will glow with yuletide decorations. On Saturday night, the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park will host a Victorian Christmas program from 5 to 8 p.m. There will also be a Victorian fashion show by the Tombstone Vigilettes at 6:30. The park’s admission fee that night will be waived. The chamber, which sponsors Luminaria Nights, said to dress warmly, wear comfortable shoes for walking and added a flashlight might be useful. Tubac is about 20 miles south of Green Valley on Interstate 19. There’s no charge to enter the village. For more information, call 398-2704. jlamb@gvnews.com| 547-9749
