NewsGreen Valley Recreation’s board of directors nominated six people Tuesday to fill four soon-to-be vacant positions and also heard some encouraging news about construction of its newest recreation center. They also adopted a series of bylaws amendments designed to streamline board operations. Chuck Catino, chairman of the nominations committee, introduced the nominees, Mike Banks, Bob Barry, Al Crawford, Joe Roth, Linda Sparks and Stan Riddle. Riddle has served on the board before. The six will be seeking the seats that will be vacated by current President Lou Lovat, Frank Kalis, Ann Gillingham and Angelika Alfson. There are 12 members of the board serving three year terms. GVR Executive Director Anndrea Blackshear told the board all the permits are in hand for construction of the Canoa Ranch Center including the building permit and those for the fire line and domestic water line, storm drains, paving, grading and sewer. GVR broke ground in mid-October. At that time President Lovat predicted it would be ready for use in about a year. Construction was originally scheduled to start in 2002. Canoa Ranch will be GVR’s eighth major center. It also has six smaller satellite center. jlamb@gvnews.com | 520-547-9749
