NewsA humorous performance of “Knights of the Rad Table” will take the stage at the Sahuarita Auditorium in early November as the Sahuarita High drama program presents its fall production. Directing is Gloria Colchado, the new SHS drama teacher. Written by Pat Lydersen, “Knights of the Rad Table” is a rollicking spoof of the legend of King Arthur, somewhat in the tradition of Monty Python. Rehearsals for the fall show are under way at the Sahuarita Auditorium. “Knights of the Rad Table” opens with a pair of contemporary teenagers on a typical day. Gwen is spending her Saturday morning reading a romantic story while Artie shows off his prowess on a skateboard ... until Merlin suddenly awakes from a 1,500 year snooze. He quickly whisks them off to Camelot and the exhilarating days of chivalry. Artie successfully pulls the sword Excaliber from its rock and is then majestically crowned high king. Gwen meets the handsome and romantic Lancelot and the “Knights of the Rectangular Table.” Colchado chose “Knights of the Rad Table” for several reasons. Its many characters offer the cast a variety of expressions, there is a great deal of visual humor, it will be a good learning experience and, equally important, it will be fun to do, and fun to watch. The one-act play runs approximately 60 minutes and will be supplemented with skits and monologues. Performances will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 7-9. Tickets will be available at the door, as well as from any member of the cast or crew. Green Valley resident Ray Hathaway is an actor, director and a volunteer with the Sahuarita High School drama program.
