N.M. police arrest GV man in wife’s death

David Taub

A Green Valley man accused of killing his paralyzed wife and trying to commit suicide eight days later has been released from a Las Cruces, N.M., hospital and arrested.

David Taub, 63, has been charged with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence.

Sherry Taub, 60, was pronounced dead Oct. 4 at MountainView Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces.

Sgt. Andrew Tingwall of the New Mexico State Police said authorities believe she was killed in Las Cruces.

David Taub told state police he and his wife were traveling from Arizona to Texas in a recreational vehicle when they stopped at a truck stop in Lordsburg.

He contended he left the RV and returned to find his wife beaten and robbed of $600, state police said.

He then drove 120 miles to the hospital, state police said.

Taub has said he is innocent.

But a criminal complaint alleges Taub had been in Las Cruces at least four days prior to Oct. 4, staying at a recreational vehicle park as he waited for his RV to be repaired.

Taub was to meet with investigators Oct. 12, but he missed the interview and later was found unconscious in a hotel room.

Police said they found a pair of suicide notes, syringes and vials of a drug used to control epileptic seizures and as a sedative to relieve anxiety in the hotel.

Nancy Kuhary, Sherry Taub’s sister, has said her sibling had muscular dystrophy and was confined to a wheelchair because she was paralyzed.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
