NewsIn response to popular demand, the Joyner-Green Valley Library will be open on Sundays, starting this Sunday, Sept. 30, from 1 to 5 p.m., along with 14 other branches of the Pima County Public Library System. “We have been working to open more libraries on Sundays in response to customer requests for additional library hours,” said Nancy Ledeboer, Pima County public library director. “Through the hiring of additional staff and rotating work schedules, we have been able to accomplish an important goal of our long-term planning to expand service whenever possible,” she said. Amber Mathewson, head librarian at the Green Valley branch, said the branch and others were provided with a budget for extra hours for librarians and pages and for hiring additional personnel, if needed. “The county increased the library budget, which allows for an increase of hours at mostly all of the large and medium-sized library branches in the county,” Mathewson said. “Nobody is working overtime here” she said, adding that the increase would not pose a burden for the staff because money has been provided to deal with the extra time. She said survey after survey indicates that library patrons within the system would like to see Sunday hours and this is a response to those many requests. The Sunday hours should be especially appreciated by working people here who go to the library Saturday mornings and find the parking lots at the government center overflowing with vehicles whose passengers come to patronize not only the library but also the White Elephant Thrift Shop. Regular hours at the Green Valley library are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. For additional library hours, check www.library. pima.gov or call the library infoline at 791-4010. kengle@gvnews.com|547-9732

In many areas of the country Mr. Woods would be free to select other desired items. The resident's initial call would have been ignored since the suspicious person did not seemingly gain entrance was no longer present. "
