Smuggler hides methamphetamines in truck’s fuel tank

Published: Tuesday, September 25, 2007 10:49 PM MST

A smuggler thought he had a pretty good way to sneak liquid methamphetamines across the Mexican border—put them in the fuel tank.

But it didn’t work.

U.S. border guards did a thorough search and found eight pounds of liquid methamphetamines in one of his truck’s fuel tanks.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents at the border became suspicious after talking to the driver, a 45-year-old man from Nogales, Sonora.

According to CPB a drug-sniffing dog alerted the search agents that there were illegal drugs aboard and the ensuing search turned up the drug.

The driver was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for further investigation.

CBP reported that since the first of the month, its agents have stopped 331 smuggling attempts that yielded 38,979 pounds of marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamines and heroin worth about $124 million.
