Elks Soccer Shoot set for Sept. 29 with boys, girls playing for medals

Published: Tuesday, September 25, 2007 10:49 PM MST

The Green Valley Elks Lodge is inviting local boys and girls ages 7-13 to exhibit their skills and garner a chance to win medals for their soccer prowess on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 8 a.m. to noon at Sahuarita Park, 15500 S. Sahuarita Park Rd.

The age of each contestant is determined as of Aug. 1, 2007.

The annual event will bring in kids from Continental and Sahuarita schools to have fun testing their accuracy at the five goal targets for the U-8 and U-10 group and a grid goal competition for the U-12 and U-14 contestants.

Medals will be awarded for the top two finishers in each age group by gender.

Elks members will be on hand to provide free hot dogs, chips, soda and water for the kids.

The winners and their families will be invited to the lodge on Monday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m. for an indoor picnic and awards presentation.

Last year’s event netted 105 children and the lodge hopes to beat that number this year.

This activity is one of several youth programs sponsored by the Elks. The common goal of all their youth programs is to keep children occupied with positive, character-building role models and activities, providing alternatives to drug use, and to simply have fun.

Questions may be directed to Jim Kear at 648-7004.
