NewsWith Election Day 2008 about 400 days away, the local Green Valley Democratic Grassroots Get Out the Vote Movement is gearing up to encourage new residents and anyone who isn’t a registered voter to register. Hoping for a high turnout of voters in Green Valley’s 14 precincts and Sahuarita’s seven precincts in coming elections, the GOTV Movement, which is co-chaired by Marla Daugherty and Peggy Pierce, held their opening event with County Recorder F. Ann Rodriguez as guest speaker. Based on new voter registration requirements enacted through Proposition 200, anyone voting in Arizona for the first time must provide proof of U.S. citizenship. There are six acceptable documents. They include a legible photocopy of a driver’s license issued by another state that identifies U.S. citizenship, a legible photocopy of a birth certificate that verifies U.S. citizenship, a photocopy of a U.S. passport containing name and passport number, a photocopy of U.S. naturalization documents or a tribal enrollment card or other form of tribal identification. To familiarize new residents and non voters with the types of identification required, the Democratic GOTV Movement will have a booth at the White Elephant County Fair scheduled for Oct. 25, 26 and 27.
