Heart lecture series starts Oct. 1

The University of Arizona in conjunction with Green Valley Recreation will present its Sarver Heart Center Lecture Series, starting Oct. 4, featuring some new topics, such as diabetes and stroke.

The series will feature presentations by Sarver Heart Center experts about the most important aspects of heart disease and will provide ample opportunity for questions from the audience.

The series is free and open to the public with all presentations held Thursdays at 10 a.m. at Canoa Hills Center. No reservations are required and a light snack will be provided.

The schedule of lectures is as follows:

  • Oct. 4, “Cardiovascular Risks: High Blood Pressure and High Cholesterol” by Dr. Gordon A. Ewy.

  • Nov. 15, “Skip No Beat: Pacemakers and Defibrillators” by Dr Peter Ott.


  • Dec. 6, “Fixing Failing Hearts” by Dr. Jack G. Copeland.

  • Jan. 17, “Diabetes As A Cardiovascular Disease” by Betsy Dokken, PhD., nurse practitioner.

  • Feb. 21, “Strokes: Risks and Prevention” by Leslie Ritter, PhD

  • March 20, “Women and Heart Disease” by Dr. Lorraine L. Mackstaller

  • April 17, “Who’s Who of Heart Medications” by Paul E. Nolan, pharmacist.
