NewsAs of Oct. 1, La Posada, Southern Arizona’s pre-eminent not-for-profit continuing care retirement community, will adopt a no-smoking/tobacco-free policy, whereby smoking and the use of tobacco products inside and near all residences and community buildings will be prohibited by the Residency Contract and by signage. Smoking will be permitted in specified areas outside and away from residences and community buildings. Residents of independent living who currently smoke will have the opportunity to be grandfathered in. This policy was prompted by community discomfort with tobacco smoke, Arizona state legislation, and by the desire to further underscore La Posada’s commitment to providing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle for all of its residents. Blood drive is Sept. 24 Fall is a good time to pick up the habit of donating blood, says Suzanne Mann, coordinator of the American Red Cross-Friends in Deed blood drive to be held on Monday, Sept. 24, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Friends, 301 Camino Casa Verde. “We’re looking forward to a good turnout,” says Mann. Anyone over the age of 17 who is in good health is eligible. A photo ID is required of each volunteer prior to donating. Previous donors are being contacted. If you have not been called, dial 1-800-GIVE-BLOOD for a reservation. Mann reminds all that Pima County needs as much as 300 pints of blood each day all year.
