NewsGreen Valley Recreation’s board of directors approved hiring a new executive director Tuesday, and the candidate has also agreed, but the name won’t be revealed until Sept. 25. That’s to give board members and the successful candidate time to sign off on employment documents, according to GVR President Lou Lovat. The position has been vacant since April, when former executive director Jeff Ziegler left after 34 years to take a similar position north of Tucson. Anndrea Blackshear, a GVR executive, has been filling in since his departure. She’s a candidate for the job. A month ago, the board spent more than an hour in executive session and couldn’t reach a decision. A statement from President Lovat on Tuesday said the board had offered the position and “the candidate accepted the appointment,” providing the candidate and board agree to “an employment document containing terms and conditions of employment.” GVR is an $18-million-dollar-a-year operation with 12 recreation centers serving about 24,000 members. The members are homeowners in many of Green Valley homeowner associations. The centers provide physical activities, places and programs for clubs and classes and for drama programs. The centers’ swimming pools attract 67,000 people a year. jlamb@gvnws.com | 547-9749
