Coffee and doughnuts at 9:30 a.m., meeting at 10 a.m. John Meek will discuss his considerable efforts to have Medal of Honor awarded posthumously to Air Force Gen. Ken Taylor. Aug. 11

The first meeting of a public education program to counter myths about gay and lesbian people will be held on Saturday, Aug. 11, at 9 a.m. at the Joyner-Green Valley Library. Sponsored by the welcoming Diversity Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, it is an interfaith group with people from the Good Shepherd United Church and others of no relilgious affililation. The topic will be “A Gay Kid’s Life.” There will be either a live panel or a DVD. Free and open to all including parents and young people in the surrounding areas.
