Aug. 8

GVR Chess Club meets from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at East Center. GVR members of all skill levels, as well as beginners, are welcome. For information, call Jim Clark, 648-9988.

Aug. 9

Valle Verde Rotary Club meets on Thursday, Aug. 9, at 7 a.m. at Green Valley Community Church. Club President Cindy Arcia will speak on the convention in Salt Lake City. Plus meet and lilsten to two Rotarians’ stories. For information, call lLynne Skelton, 625-8286.

Aug. 10

Aero Club of Arizona will meet on Friday, Aug. 10 at Friends in Deed, 301 Camino Casa Verde. Coffee and doughnuts at 9:30 a.m., meeting at 10 a.m. John Meek will discuss his considerable efforts to have Medal of Honor awarded posthumously to Air Force Gen. Ken Taylor. The Coalition for a Safe and Secure Border will host a presentation at 2 p.m. at Good Shepherd Church, 17750 S. LaCanada in Sahuarita.

Aug. 11

The first meeting of a public education program to counter myths about gay and lesbian people will be held on Saturday, Aug. 11, at 9 a.m. at the Joyner-Green Valley Library. Sponsored by the welcoming Diversity Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, it is an interfaith group with people from the Good Shepherd United Church and others of no relilgious affililation. The topic will be “A Gay Kid’s Life.” There will be either a live panel or a DVD. Free and open to all including parents and young people in the surrounding areas. The Alzheimer Caregiver Support Group of Prestige Assisted Living meets on Tuesday, Aug. 14, from noon until 1:30 p.m. at Prestige, 1175 S. Abrego Drive. Join the group for lunch as well as the meeting Repite care for your loved one provided. Reservations may be made by calling Carolyn, 648-5583.
