Briefly: Church to host walk on labyrinth

Published: Saturday, July 14, 2007 10:11 PM MST

The public is invited to a candlelight walk on a labyrinth located on the St. Francis-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church grounds, just south of church tower at 600 S. La Canada Dr., Tuesday, July 17, at 7 p.m.

A rain date is set for Wednesday, July 18, at 7 p.m.

According to the organizers, the labyrinth is an ancient Christian tradition symbolizing walking the path of life with God. One of the most famous labyrinths can be found in Chartres Cathedral in France.

During the Middle Ages, pilgrims walked the labyrinths as part of their spiritual journey.

Labyrinths have long been used as meditation and prayer tools.

Green Valley resident Carl Perry will play a Native American flute to accompany the walkers.

Chairs will be set up for those who can not walk, but would enjoy attending the spiritual experience.

On hand will be a representative who will explain the purpose of the labyrinth. and brochures will be available at the site with more information.

The St. Francis labyrinth was inspired by ancient design.
