Beware a scam collecting for SAV, says chief
It looks like someone may be trying to run a scam using as a front SAV — the Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers.

SAV Cmdr. Bob Hoeckelberg said a local business received a call from a man saying he wanted to collect for an ad in SAV’s phone book.

The man wanted $341 for the ad and asked for a credit card number.

The call’s recipient said the solicitor was rude. She hung up and called SAV to report it.

Hoeckelberg said Friday SAV doesn’t solicit over the phone and doesn’t have a phone book.

Also the organization depends on donations.

“We’re concerned,” said Hoeckelberg. “We hope no one fell for it.”
