Burglaries reported in the Fairways

Published: Saturday, May 12, 2007 9:39 PM MST

Within two nights, a pair of burglaries were reported in the Fairways section of Green Valley.

Ray and Jane Drugan, who live in Fairways III, said their backyard shed was opened and a number of tools were taken, including a grinder, portable drill, a miter saw, tool boxes, mechanic’s tools, a pair of binoculars, other things and “an old pair of shoes.”

The Drugans said the burglars apparently used something like a putty knife to slide the latch open. There was no lock on the door.

That break-in occurred Sunday night, May 6. They reported it to the local sheriff’s office.

The previous night, the sheriff’s office said, someone entered property on La Huerta.

The report said burglars apparently tried to steal a welding machine, but it was chained and couldn’t be removed. The back gate there was left standing open.

And there was at least one other burglary.

Drugan said that while in Wal-Mart, checking tool prices to make an insurance claim, an employee said he’d also been hit. “’I was robbed,’” Drugan quoted him. He said he’d lost tools, too.

The employee said he lived on Abrego near the other break-ins.
