NewsEditor: I think Jim Lamb confused the U.S. Postal Service with the Border Patrol in his article on Wednesday, April 4. He said: "if it rains or hails or snows the agents will be there." Those of us who go through the checkpoint on a daily basis know that when it rains or snows or hails or even if the wind is blowing really hard, the checkpoint will be closed. Trust me, those who are transporting drugs or humans or just trying in get in know it, too. Basically, all the checkpoint does is funnel people around it. We often see immigrants walking along the road within a half a mile past the checkpoint or in the desert alongside the road. Those who live in Tubac or Arivaca can testify to the streams of people going through at night. Those who live in Green Valley and walk early in the mornings, see them going through the washes. The best answer of all was given recently by some people from the Border Patrol. Make it possible for those who simply want work to come in legally as guest workers and let the Border Patrol concentrate on the real criminals. In the meantime, those of us who have businesses in Tubac and rely on tourists and travelers for our livelihood are adversely affected by the checkpoint. Jim Kolbe understood this. Ms. Giffords apparently does not. Barbara Young, The Old Book Shop, Tubac
