It’s all about dogs and cats at Pampered Pets Boutique, a new business in the Continental Shopping Plaza specializing in unique quality items for your best friends.
Of course, you can bring your dog or cat in with you to shop. That’s at least half the fun, says Mike Stalling who with his wife Anastasia, “the brains of the operation,” owns the shop, which opened about a month ago and is decorated with paw prints on the floor.
Customers will find a profusion of items ranging from pet art, pet books, statues, pet clothes, toys shampoo, tooth paste, brushes, bowls, pet totes, cards snacks, emergency stickers to post with your pet’s medical history and more.
The boutique also regularly posts information on pets available for adoption from The Animal League of Green Valley and Paws Patrol.
There’s a wide selection of cat trees, cat houses and beds, including a canopy bed for the dog and cat who has everything else and enjoys a touch of feminine old-fashioned elegance, and rustic-looking beds fashioned from aspen wood for you macho guy.
Choke-free collars
Stalling, who says the store can special order anything the customer desires for his/her pet, is especially proud of the choke-free, all-leather collars for dogs and cats which fit around the shoulders and can make walks a more comfortable experience.
Proving very popular now, especially in light of the recent dog food recall, is Nature’s Logic, an all-natural product for both dogs and cats in both canned and dry varieties. Pampered Pets is the exclusive retailer for this product in Green Valley and Sahuarita, Stalling said.
“This product is all meat, fruits and vegetables with no wheat or grain,” Stalling explained.
Owned repair shop
The Stallings moved to Green Valley a few months ago after owning and operating an auto repair shop in Carson City, Nev. for 25 years.
Once they arrived here, the Stallings, who own three dogs, started some research and discovered there was a market for a store for pets in the Green Valley and Sahuarita areas.
“We decided to open a store for pets because we thought there was a vital need for one here and because we loved the area,” he said.
“We talked to a lot of people who thought it would be a great idea because there are so many pet lovers in this area, so we went ahead and did it,” Stalling said, noting that the couple did quite a bit of research at a Pet Expo in Chicago, on the Internet and elsewhere to get a handle on the market.
They figured their retail experience would pay off just as well in another business, Stalling said, and so far that has proven right.
The Stallings say their prices, in many cases, are “so low you don’t have to go to Tucson,” a fact made possible because they deal with small vendors.
Samples of various products are available and the store offers a 20 percent discount on all products and merchandise if the customer presents a receipt from Coach’s Grill, Ragazzi’s or La Placita.
The Stallings are the parents of two grown children, a daughter in college and a son who works for an auto body shop in Carson City, Nev.
Pampered Pets Boutique, located near China Vic’s, is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
