Minuteman group plans border watch for April
By Jim Lamb

An Arizona border watch group plans to conduct a month-long operation starting April 1.

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps sent out notices this week recruiting border watchers and seeking funds to help the operation.

In an e-mail notice, MCDC said, “Our government is still not doing its job.”

It argues that the United States doesn’t do enough to thwart illegal border crossing.

The notice said Minuteman Civil Defense Corps will conduct around the clock operation for 30 days.

Similar events are planned in New Mexico, Texas, New Hampshire, New York and Washington state, it said.

Chief of MCDC, Chris Simcox, said last October about 800 volunteers worked in Arizona, and he’s expecting that or up to 1,000 this time.

Overall, in the five states that will hold border watches, he expects 3,000.

This year, Simcox said, Minuteman Civil Defense Corps has invited all presidential candidates to come observe the border watch. He said U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., and U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., have indicated they’ll show up.

The Arizona kickoff rally will be held at King’s Anvil Ranch at Three Points in Pima County.

Events start at 11 a.m.
