Hazardous waste collection planned here March 17

Start collecting unneeded hazardous wastes for a special collection and disposal in Green Valley Saturday, March 17.

The collection will take place 8 a.m. to noon at the parking lot at Valley Presbyterian Church, 2800 South Camino del Sol.

The Green Valley Community Coordinating Council and Tucson/Pima County Household Hazardous Waste Program is planning the event.

These are some of the household hazardous wastes that will be collected: Automotive fluids, rechargeable batteries (alkaline batteries should be disposed in trash), drain cleaners, fire extinguishers also

Fluorescent light bulbs, herbicides, hobby chemicals, household cleaners, ink and toner cartridges, lawn and garden products, medications (no sharps), paint products also

Pesticides, polishes, pool chemicals, propane tanks for barbecue grills and solvents and items labeled acid, caustic, flammable, poison, toxic or if the label contains the word caution, danger or warning.

The announcement said the drive can’t accept business or commercial wastes, commercials gas cylinders, explosives or ammunition, infectious, radioactive wastes or sharps.

The announcement suggested, “If possible car-pool you materials with a friend or neighbor.”
