NewsEditor: Many of us walk the alleys and "out of the way" paths to exercise our pets and ourselves. With the influx of snowbirds, recreational use increases as well as the problem of pet waste. You may imagine you are off the beaten path, so why bother to pick up your pet's waste? But, actually, it's a well-used path. Then the more people that don't pick up Fido's poop, the more other people won't bother cause it seems like a useless battle. Last week, alone I picked up 20 pounds of dog poop left by inconsiderate pet owners. And that wasn't hardly any of what's out there. By not doing your share, you are helping deface the land, breed flies and disease. It's really not pleasant to be enjoying nature amidst piles of poop. As the weather gets warmer the spread of flies and disease gets worse, too. Please "everybody" this is your town, too. Don't leave your pet's piles. Also many people drive to these paths. Ideally a garbage receptacle would help alleviate this problem but until there is one, be a responsible pet owner and bag your dog's waste. Toss it in the trunk and put in your garbage. And thank you to all you pet owners who continue to treat our outdoor resources with consideration.
