‘Blessing’ celebrates human bond with animals

Published: Tuesday, February 27, 2007 10:40 PM MST

The 18th annual Blessing of the Animals will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4 at The Animal League of Green Valley, 1600 W. Duval Mine Rd., Sahuarita, organizers say.

The Rev. Madonna Moess, retired from the Green Valley Community Church after 22 years on the staff, will conduct the service.

The Blessing of the Animals is one of the joys of her ministry, Moess said. She was raised with many kinds of animals. Now she said she enjoys walking with a neighbor and her neighbor’s dog, Jenny, who was adopted from TALGV.

The theme this year, selected by Moess, centers around the appreciation of Native American traditions. The service will include music from nature, a litany and blessings.

TALGV said all are welcome to attend, pet or no pet. Animals residing at the league will also attend the service.

Organizers say the annual Blessing of the Animals offers an opportunity for people to celebrate their unique bond with animals.
