Rhoda A. Walker, 80,

born 10-22-24, passed away 9-5-05 after a sudden and tragic struggle with lung cancer.

Rhoda grew up in Mt. Pulaski, Ill., daughter of Jessie (Scroggin) and Austin Schaffenacker. She graduated from the Evanston School of Nursing in Chicago in 1946 and traveled to Portland, Ore., afterward for a well-deserved vacation. There she met the boy next door, Robert Walker. They were married in December 1947 and lived in Portland while dad earned his college degree in physics.

They moved to Walnut Creek, Calif., in 1958 with their four children. They then moved to Durango, Colo., in 1972, where they enjoyed the great outdoors.

Mom retired from nursing in 1987 after 40 years of service. After Dad passed away in 1999, Mom moved from Casa Grande to Green Valley in 2000 and to her beloved home on West Calle de Emilia.

Once here, she quickly became an active member in the Newcomer's group, swimnastics and two bridge clubs. She thoroughly enjoyed all her activities and new friends in Green Valley. We are so glad mom had these five wonderful years in Green Valley, living life to the fullest and having so many caring friends.

Her humor, spunk and bright smile are greatly missed. She is survived by her sister Jane (Robert) Hemphill of Green Valley; her four children, Nancy (Dave) Kuhlman of Loomis, Calif., Kurt (Stacy) Walker of Los Osos, Calif., Joanna (Ken) Nichols of Durango, Colo., and Matthew (Loretta) Walker of Marshall, Minn.; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 16, at Green Valley Mortuary, with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your favorite charity
