News > Top StoriesThe Green Valley Duplicate Bridge Club as well as those in Sierra Vista, Saddlebrook, Oro Valley and Tucson have contributed $4000 to Youth on Their Own, an organization dedicated to helping homeless students stay in school. The clubs comprise Duplicate Bridge Unit 356 of the American Contract Bridge League. In a change from previous policy, the ACBL Charity Foundation gave grants to districts nationwide rather than donate $100,000 to a National Charity of the Year. Southern Arizona is part of District 17, which received $20,000. The district allocated $4000 to Unit 356 to be used for a local charity. Youth On Their Own was founded in 1986 and has helped thousands of students in so many ways--monthly stipends, medical, dental and counseling services, clothing, food, transportation, alternative homes, etc. Jodi Walker, Unit 356 president, and Connie Freeman, unit representative for District Board 17, will present the check to Youth On Their Own.
