Gallagher to slice and dice at April 23 Tucson performance

Published: Friday, April 8, 2005 7:37 AM MST

TUCSON--Protective plastic advised. Gallagher, who's taken the word "Ginsu" to new heights, showers his audience with humor, pureed fruit salad and other food groups beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, at Casino Del Sol's Anselmo Valencia Amphitheatre (AVA).

Visual schlock has helped vault Gallagher to a place of adoration among fans that risk going home with melon pulp or lumps of cottage cheese in their hair just to catch his act.

More than flying bits of food, Gallagher's show incorporates intelligent social and political commentary as only he can deliver.

Add this to a plethora of oddball props and you have the ingredients of one of the most calculating performers in the entertainment world.

Gallagher is also known for his audacious cable specials with titles like "Too Real," "Melon Crazy," "The Messiest of All," "We Need A Hero" and "Sledge-O-Matic.com"

Loyal fans show up already Gallagherized, wearing plastic raincoats, goggles, sunglasses and umbrellas, and refer to the front of the venue as Death Row.

Fans always get more than their money's worth. Gallagher gives 110 percent before and during every Sledge-O-Matic show, posing for pictures and signing autographs. Flash photography is allowed. He has even been know to sell cameras if you forget yours.

All ages are welcome. Gates open at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets ($12 lawn; $25 and $35 for reserved seating) are on sale now at all Ticketmaster locations or via the Internet at www.ticketmaster.com.

To order by phone, call Ticketmaster at 520-321-1000. Casino Del Sol's AVA is at 5655 W. Valencia Road in Tucson.
