News > Top StoriesOn March 1, 2005, John Deardorf and John Golleher opened the doors of Talk of the Town -- a Salon (not to be confused with a Green Valley News column of similar name). Deardorf, a hair designer since 1960, has tried other professions, but keeps coming back to styling. Previously from California and Wisconsin, Deardorf has been a Green Valley resident since August 2004. This is the third salon he has owned. He has always owned his own salons and done quite well with them, but relocated to Green Valley to relax. Someone told him about a vacancy in the J.P. Vaughn building on La Canada and the rest is history. John Golleher, business manager for the salon, says, "We wanted a creative place where people could be comfortable in their surroundings and have a good time." "The people are so friendly here," says Deardorf. "They love the service and attention they get and we're meeting a lot of awfully nice residents." So far, the salon has been very well received. Perhaps this is because of the staff. Specializes in wigs Stylist Nancy Hunter has been in the business for 22 years, and specializes in wigs. She is a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and works with chemotherapy patients. She sells wigs as well, offering a no-obligation consultation. "Half the town is wearing them and you don't know it, they look so good," she says. Lorrie Balland has been away from the styling profession for a few years, but is back and taking customers at Talk of the Town. She does both men's and women's cuts, colors, razor cuts, and she also offers waxing. She soon hopes to add facials to her list of services. Nail technician Shari Marie does manicures, acrylics, French manicures, and pedicures in the salon's brand new pedicure spa. Pedicures are very popular in Green Valley and a waiting list has already formed for appointments with the spa, which features a whirlpool for the feet and a massaging chair. "I love what I do," says Marie. "This is the place to come to be pampered." "The team really gels and has a good time," says Golleher. "We hope customers feel at home and we keep the atmosphere friendly." In the afternoons you can even sip a glass of wine or a cup of hot coffee or tea while you beautify. "When you're changing your look, or getting a haircut, you want to be paid attention to. A lot of times businesses have lost the art of customer service," says Golleher. "At Talk of the Town, the customer comes first." Talk of the Town--a Salon is located at 1910 N. La Canada in the J.P. Vaughn building next to the Unity Center, Suite 4. The salon is open by appointment. Call for yours at 829-7608.
