She was 95 years old.Katherine was a joy to all who knew her. She was always adventuresome, a true daughter of West Virginia and a pioneer in Arizona. Born on Dec. 15, 1913, she grew up on the McCulloch family farm in Point Pleasant, W.Va., with six sisters and one brother. She graduated from Marshall College with teaching certification and taught school for several years. LAWRENCE PANTAK, 84, of Green Valley, passed away Nov. 16, 2009, in hospice care at the VA in Tucson, surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer.Lawrence was born in Bay City, Mich. He was a merchant seaman in WWII and retired from Galen E. Wilson Petroleum Co., where he worked for over 40 years. He enjoyed singing and was an avid hunter for many years. BAKER, 84, of Green Valley, passed away Nov. 11, 2009.Phyllis was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and lived most of her life in St. Louis, Mo., before retiring with her husband, Jack M. She was the daughter of Harry Chester Black and Mary Gupton Black. She grew up in Independence, Kan. and graduated from Kansas State University in 1938. ROBERT JAMES JORSTAD, 84, passed away in Green Valley on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009.He was born May 13, 1925, in Kenyon, Minn. on the family farm to Melvin Richard and Selma Jorstad, as the fourth of six children. Robert graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. and later served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. November 14th, 2009 WILLIAM “BILL” CYRUS WEBBER, born Aug. 27, 1921, died Nov. 4, 2009, at the Englewood Meridan in Colorado.He was born to William and Ethel Webber in Lima, Ohio in 1921. A bomber and fighter pilot in WWII, Bill earned the rank of Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed at IBM in Boulder, Colo. for 20 years. GEORGE A. GRIES passed away on Nov. 11, 2009.Born to John M. and Ethel Goff Gries on May 2, 1917, Cambridge, Mass., George spent the winters of his youth in Washington, D.C. and summers at the family farm in Ohio. JOHNSON, born Feb. 23, 1917, in Terra Bella, Calif. to Robert and Sarah Woodward, passed away on Nov. 5, 2009.Betty was raised in Washington State and moved to Green Valley in 1987, where she has lived since. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters. Also preceding her was her husband Ralph W. Johnson. SHIRLEE A. HANSMAN (nee O’CONNOR), 83, of Green Valley, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, under hospice care at Carondelet Hospice in Tucson.Shirlee was born Feb. 26, 1926, in Stevens Point, Wis. to Bert and Dorothy O’Connor. Shirley married her best friend and companion in life, Marvin Hansman. The couple moved to Buffalo Grove, Ill. in 1959, before retiring to Green Valley in 1992. CHARLENE ADELLE PEARSON RENDE TAYLOR, 65, died at home in Green Valley on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009. She died after a five-month battle with cancer and illness.Char was born May 29, 1944, in Wheaton, Minn. and was raised in Sisseton, S.D. She then moved to Minnesota with her family where she attended a Lutheran College in Minneapolis. While working in Minneapolis, she met her first husband LaVern and they had three children. November 10th, 2009 ALBERTUS FREDERICK “BUD” DODSON M.D. was born April 26, 1926, in Wilber, Neb. and died Oct. 31, 2009, in Green Valley at the age of 83.Dr. Dodson practiced pediatrics in Brainerd, Minn. from 1956 until 1979, when he semi-retired and relocated to Arizona. He fully retired from medicine in 1989. He was a founding member of the Northland Clinic in Brainerd and also served as the first Medical Director of the Brainerd State Hospital. CATHERINE B. DEWEY was born in Texas in 1933. She passed away on Nov. 2, 2009, after surgery. She had made her home in Illinois, Wyoming and Colorado before retiring to La Posada six years ago.Cathy is survived by her husband Roger; her daughters Linda and Jill; and three grandchildren. JACKSON, 85, of Green Valley, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, after a long illness.He was a family dentist in Findlay, Ohio, for 40 years before retiring and moving to Green Valley. DR. MARY R. HALL HILDEBRAND (NEE HOSIER) returned to her loving Savior on Nov. 6, 2009. She was 93 years old.She was preceded in death by her first husband H. Douglas Hall and is survived by their children Rev. Douglas of Panama City, Fla., Richard of Omaha, Neb., Marilyn of Tucson, and Catherine (Sebastian) Raneri, Omaha. She was also preceded in death by her second husband Charles Doran Hildebrand and is survived by his children Virginia (Richard) Morrison of Providence, R.I., Charles (Mary francis), Ames, Iowa and Richard, M.D. (Rhonda), Dakota Dunes, S.D. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. MARGARET T. DONAHUE, 90, of Green Valley and formerly of New York City, passed away on Nov. 6, 2009.Nicknamed “Sug” because she was so sweet, Margaret loved lots of sugar in her coffee! November 7th, 2009 WILLARD C. “BILL” DELLENBACH passed away on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, after battling a long illness.His wife, Thacker May “Bun” Dellenbach, preceded him in 2000. His immediate family, daughter and son-in-law, friends and neighbors will mourn him. He was 80 years of age. EUNICE CARLSON YERGIN of Green Valley died, sitting up reading a book, early on Oct. 26, 2009, in Tucson. She was 86. While her passing was unexpected, her family are grateful that it was peaceful and she was doing something she so loved.Always in her life there were books; she passed on a lifelong love of reading to her two daughters. Always too there were cats, often dogs and other pets; her deep love for animals is another legacy. While there was no cat in her final days due to her mobility problems, it is fitting and comforting that there was a book. (It was “These Three Remain,” in case you are wondering - a Pride and Prejudice story told as if from Mr. Darcy’s point of view. “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen was her favorite book; she re-read it many times and saw every version ever filmed!) JEAN FLORISSE HARTUNG, 77, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Nov. 4, 2009.She was born in Hinsdale, Ill. on June 25, 1932, and resided in Crystal Lake, Ill. until 1987. |
