News > Top StoriesTax season is here again and many area seniors will be looking for help in preparing their income tax returns. The Green Valley Tax-Aide Program sponsored jointly by the American Association of Retired persons, and the Internal Revenue Service, has been offering assistance free of charge since 1981. Tax -Aide is designed primarily for taxpayers with low to moderate incomes with a special emphasis on persons over 60. Since filing is done electronically, most people see their refunds in two weeks or less. The Tax-Aide Program is not able to handle business-related tax returns, nor does it have any tax forms for distribution. Beginning today (Feb. 2) Tax-Aide services will be offered at four Green Valley locations: In addition, assistance will be available by appointment, at San Martin de Porres Church in Sahuarita (625-1154.) Spanish-speaking assistance is also available at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Local coordinator Helen Murdoch reminds those interested to bring a photo ID, along with last year's returns and any tax information received this year, including figures for "cost basis" for those who have sold investments. For more information, call Murdoch at 648-5123. kengle@gvnews.com | 625-5512 x 26
