Desert keepsake an AAUW fund-raiser

The Green Valley American Association of University Women (AAUW) has a delightful GV Desert Keepsake for sale as one of its fund-raising efforts.

This small genuine 24 K-Gold Flashed Brass three-dimensional treasure features the sun over the Santa Rita Mountains, saguaro cactus, and a quail family. Green Valley, Arizona is engraved at the bottom of this special souvenir of the area.

This charming little 2 1/2 x 2 1/4-inch rectangular frame makes a great gift, can be hung on a Christmas tree or in a window, and will serve as a happy hello from Green Valley for family and friends.

The price is only $5. Local AAUW member, Joyce Degenhart, from Racine, Wis., and Green Valley, came up with the idea.

A comparable and successful product has been marketed there by the Kiwanis for a number of years.

Joyce contacted Jackson Pacific in Oregon to come up with the design based on information and material from GV AAUW.

The lacy-like keepsake was produced in China.

AAUW will introduce and have it for sale at its fall kickoff meeting on Monday, Sept. 20, at Desert Hills Center on Camino Del Sol at 10 a.m.

Cash is the preferred payment method.

The keepsake will also be available at future AAUW activities and the Green Valley White Elephant Fair in late October.

The fund-raiser will benefit local and national projects related to AAUW's legal advocacy and the educational foundation.

AAUW, founded over a century ago, promotes equity for all women and girls, life-long learning and positive social change.

Members must have a college degree.
