Throughout the country, sunflowers are a symbol of summer with their large, long-lasting, eye-popping flowers. Sunflower (Helianthus annus) is one of the few crop species that originated in North America.

SANDRA (MECKLENBURG) CISNEROS, 67, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010 in Green Valley, after a short illness.
She was born Jan. 29, 1943, to Fred and Dorothea Mecklenburg of South St. Paul, Minn. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Laurence Carl Cisneros.
ELIZABETH M. “BETTE” WHITE, 96, died peacefully on Sept 1, 2010.
Bette was preceded in death by her husband Russell and grandson Keith.
